RocDog volunteers with their certified dogs

We appreciate you! Our members are the heart of RocDog. As we look back on the past five years of collective impact we have made in Western New York and beyond, we celebrate all we have achieved with you. Without you, your pet therapy dogs wouldn’t visit hundreds of people who need comforting. Without you, many schools and workplaces would be without a resident pet therapy dog. Without you, our purpose would be unfulfilled. We need you so we can continue to have a positive impact on the lives of those we serve.

We Invite You to Continue on This Positive Journey With Us!

Teaching Point: Be Open to Other Types of Visits

Hello, and welcome to Teaching Points! In this session, we’re exploring how to stay open to other types of visits — and why your dog may have some strong opinions on the subject that you haven’t heard yet.

When you started down the road to becoming a Therapy Dog Team, you probably had one picture in your head: the hospital hallway, the school reading circle, the nursing home common room. Wonderful! But here is the question nobody asks at the beginning — what if your dog pictured something completely different? Trust us: dogs are rarely shy about posting their reviews. Would you make them go anyway? Of course not. Our goal is simple: find the places you both love. And the only way to find them? Try a few!

Some dogs get a little spicy around other dogs, so flying solo may turn out to be your sweet spot. Some Teams shine when they collaborate; others would rather not share the spotlight. A big, busy group setting lights up one dog and flattens the next. None of that is failure — it’s valuable intel about your one-of-a-kind partner.

So, when did you last try somewhere new? We love it when Teams experiment, because dogs surprise people all the time. Some visits are pure joy and some are genuinely hard; a library visit and a hospice visit are worlds apart, yet both can be meaningful and rewarding for you and for the people you meet. Get out there and explore! You just might stumble onto your dog’s favorite place in the whole world.

Teaching Points will go live in Thinkific very soon. Keep your eye out.
